Eaton Hydraulic Hybrid System

Eaton Hydraulic Hybrid System

Eaton is known as a company mainly concerned with juicing up and supercharging vehicles which generally guzzles up gasoline. This time around, they are also making Series Hydraulic Hybrid Systems (SHH’s). The hydraulic hybrid system is where the engine would just be a pump for hydraulics. The engine or pump stores energy in two accumulators which then are the ones which directly power the wheels of the car. This results in a lighter drive train that equates to a 50%-70% savings in fuel. Amazing ain’t it? This is truly thinking out of the box since you’re not making a new engine, but just changing the drive train or drive system itself. The first target for this system are UPS trucks and of course if all goes well, we could see this as a standard in our cars.

Grasshopper Foldable Electric Bicycle: Green Living!

Grasshopper Foldable Electric Bicycle: Green Living!

David Gonçalves designed this bike as his entry to the 12th International Bicycle Design Competition, and even won a Merit Prize for it. Cool huh? The main feature of the bike is that it’s made of composite materials that make it rigid. It’s also able to fold itself, making it smaller and compact. Since it’s a bike with an electric motor, it’s non-polluting! A new design for an electric bike, the battery can be recharged via regenerative braking, or by stationary bicycling. The target market is mainly composed of active people with environmental concerns and health concerns who live in urban centres, plus people who live nomadic lifestyles. If this comes out, I’d be the first one to get it!
