Mini cars are getting really popular these days, and Volksagen is going to try their hand at the market with their new Volkwagen Up for 2012. Early predictions suspect that the Up will have three 1.2-liter 4-cylinder units with power outputs that range from 60 to 86 hp. It will be equipped with a six-speed manual and an optional automated-manual transmission.
Weighing at only 1290-pounds, the Chrysler electric vehicle boasts a 30-mile range on a 6-8 hour charge from a standard 110-volt power outlet. The car also provides an iPod/iPhone dock and hands-free iPhone integration. The GEM Peapod has a top speed of 25mph, which is perfect for use on campus or as a neighborhood vehicle. Chrysler will release this eco-friendly car in 2009.

The All-New 2006 GTI is Volkswagen’s sporty three-door hatchback which is based on the Volkswagen Golf. This 2006 model is redesigned with more stylish exterior design and a higher level of performance. The all-new 2006 GTI is the fifth-generation of the sporty Volkswagen hatchback series. It is powered by a 200-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, a standard 6-speed manual transmission, and a new, fully-independent sport-tuned suspension. With that configuration, it can boost its output to 200 horsepower and to 207 pound-feet of torque, with peak torque from 1800 to 5000 rpm. Available with a 6-speed DSG transmission with Tiptronic transmission. Volkswagen announces that the GTI can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in just 6.8 seconds. The car is rated at 23 miles per gallon in town and 32 on the highway with the manual transmission.
If you’re in the market for a new affordable modern car, Yaris can be your ultimate choice. The New Toyota Yaris is powered by the 1NZ-FE 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine familiar from the Scions and the Prius. It has 106 horsepower at 6000 rpm, with 103 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm, and drives the front wheels through either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
Yaris will face plenty of competition from the new Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent, as well as the coming Nissan Versa and Honda Fit. The styling is different, especially for the Liftback, which is very much a contemporary European small car in looks. The sedan is much closer to the American Toyota mainstream, with a noticeable similarity to a Corolla.
